An overdue update

Wow, so much has been going on I don’t know where to start.

Gender reveal!

No, I am not pregnant. On the contrary, this title is not about a potential baby but about me. I’ve been listening to myself a lot lately, reflected on my feelings and behaviour both in the present and in the past. I am now able to better understand what I kind of always knew but lacked the words and concepts to make intelligible. I am non-binary and trans masculine. I am out to the most important people in my life, though by far not all of them yet. Many lack the necessary readiness to do some research for themselves and instead throw unnecessary questions and/or unreflected comments at me. Both won’t be tolerated on this blog.

I also go by the name Noah now and use he/him/his pronouns.

Changing places

Years of hard work and a tough application phase did pay off in the end. Out of the 8 programs that I applied to, I got accepted to two of my three top choices: Cambridge University and Emory University. Cambridge has always been such a big dream for me, but I guess that’s all it was: a dream. Some blurry idea that I could chase after and that motivated me to think bigger, do more and do better. Emory is a way better match but explaining this would require another post.

One way or another, I am going to move to Atlanta this summer for five years. That is if my visa gets approved. After waiting for 6 weeks I’ve got my appointment at the embassy next Friday, so fingers crossed that everything goes well!

What to expect

Over the next months I am going to post more on here – but not necessarily more philosophy in the narrow sense. I want to reflect on my hopes, fears and expectations for grad school, look back on my past education and from time to time throw in some hot takes that would be too long for other kinds of social media.

And that’s it for now! Not much more than the title announced: a long overdue update!
